“ADDICTION: is a Family Disease; One person uses & the Entire Family Suffers”
Substance abuse (Alcohol, Chewing tobacco, Drugs like Ganja, Cocaine, Heroin; Smoking, Sniffing glue, Petrol, Gambling, Internet addiction, etc) has become a major Social, Economic and Health problem in our society in both in teens & adults. Dr Swati Braroo at Asha Neuropsychiatric Clinic offers individualised treatment (Medical and Counselling) programmes on Out-Patient or Inpatient basis depending on the need. Dr Swati Braroo has worked in Asha De Addiction Centre at Banjara Hills, Hyderabad for period of 9 months.
She is well experienced in treating all cases of drug & alcohol abuse. She has worked one on one basis with patients by assessing multiple stressors, driving factors, family & monetary issues related to drug Abuse. Family members should encourage & motivate their relatives for treatment of Addiction (both Alcohol & Drug).
It’s the first step: How to make a person comfortable to adapt to the Withdrawal symptoms (tremors, restlessness, poor sleep, fits, etc) on reducing or suddenly stopping drugs or alcohol after chronic use. The withdrawal symptoms can sometimes be severe and increase morbidity. It is necessary to use medications to control the withdrawal symptoms & this process is called Detoxification, it is done for a period of 1 week to 10 days
De-Addiction aims at removing the alcohol or the drug from body & maintaining a drug free state. During the maintenance phase we have 3 weeks of intensive psychological therapy. The patient is offered Individual, Group and Family therapy sessions. A joint assessment is done where Psychologists address various factors like stress-related concerns, family issues, social situations and Psychiatrists address the underlying psychiatric conditions like anxiety disorders, depression, Bipolar Disorders and personality issues.
The Group therapy sessions are based on Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Power of auto-suggestion. The practical approach is used by using psychological games, yoga, relaxation therapy and pranayama. Individualised sessions to address the individual needs. Family Sessions are conducted to address specific concerns and also make the family a partner in the therapy.
We also encourage patients to seek help from various organisations like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), NA.
